The following are extracts of the news letter (clinical study of cancer patients with AHCC):

We present some cases* which we had the opportunity to use the AHCC, and observe how the patients’ conditions evolved：
　
─ A 51-year-old woman with breast cancer who was submitted for radical right mastectomy （caused by invasive ductal cancer, Grade Ⅱ, Nottingham plus Van Nuys invading the tumor with two positive metastatic lymph nodes）. She was submitted to chemotherapy （Nov 12, 2009-March 31, 2010）. Hormone plus radiotherapy （April 22, 2010-June 21, 2010）. Her clinical status was：Weakness, fatigue, depression/bad mood, and alopecia. On April 20, 2010 she had 9.4g/dL Hb, and Ht in 28.6%, CD4 and CD8 account below normal levels. After three months using the AHCC she was presenting significant improvement in her QOL, and the biochemical’s exams showed no more anemia （Hb 13g/dL, Ht 38.4%）.

─ A 61-year-old woman who had been ill for 6 years, presented with quadruple polyneuropathy （chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy）, probably resulting from auto immune or genetic causes （father, mother, grandmother presented with the illness. Were 1st degree cousins）.

The diagnosis was confirmed through EMG applied to the four members. Her clinical status was：Weakness, numbness, tingling, walking difficulties, obesity, and bad mood/depression. She received 1 gram of AHCC three times a day from March 3, 2010 to May 18, 2010. Her CD4+/CD8+ exams improved, EMG without modification, but her clinical status showed a great improvement, with loss of weight, and no more depression.

─ A 62-year-old woman presented with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis （also known as Lou Gehrig’ Disease, motor neuron disease）, who had the disease for a long period of time （13 years）.

Motor neuron disease is between 5-10% inherited and 20% genetic defect ［mutation enzyme （SOD1）］. Glutamate is present in high levels （serum/spinal fluid）. EMG findings support a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis （ALS）. Generally the clinical status shows：Fatigue, weakness, moving difficulty, dysphasia, dysarthria, spasticity, hyperreflexia, bad mood/depression. Cognitive abilities are preserved. She was followed since April 13, 2010 to June 14, 2010. The biochemical’s exams showed CD4+/CD8+ improvement, but EMG without modification. The QOL demonstrated important improvement, with less generalized complaints, and no more depression.

─ A 51-year-old woman presented 1 year ago with auto immune disease, known as Sjögren Syndrome. The diagnosis is clinical, with the presence of dry eyes, swallowing difficulty, dry mouth, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, Raynaud’s Phenomenon plus biochemical’s positive exams ［AntiSSA/RO （Antibodies Antinuclear）］, ［AntiSS/LA + （Antibodies Antinuclear）］. She started to use 1 gram of AHCC three times a day, in March 10, 2010, ending the use on June 1, 2010. She showed improvement in her CD4+/CD8+, and just 1 month after using the AHCC she noticed no more dry mouth or dry vagina （no more intercourse pain）. Her QOL had a great improvement.

─ In the sequence we started to use the AHCC in patients with hepatitis C, and in patients with hepatitis C plus cirrhosis hepatitis, and alcoholic cirrhosis.
　
All of the patients showed improvement in the platelets account, in the hepatic enzymes. But, the most impressive aspect was the improvement in their QOL. But, as soon as they felt better, despite the treatment being offered, without expenses, many patients abandoned the treatment, almost 50% of the cases （predominantly among the alcoholic patients）.

In many clinical circumstances are indications to use the AHCC, like：Heart disease, liver cancer, prostate cancer, multiple myeloma, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, chronic infections, stress/depression, high blood pressure, cirrhosis of the liver, hepatitis, auto-immune diseases, adult atopic disease, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, polyneuropathy, modulating immune response against a variety of infectious agents （opportunist infections）, including；influenza virus （common flu）, avian influenza （bird flu）, candida albicans fungus （yeast infections）, Klebsiella pneumoniae （Pneumonia）, Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria （can infect any body part）, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus -MRSA-（causes antibiotic-resistant staph infection）, West Nile Virus in mice.

Our conclusions using the AHCC were：
　・It’s very well tolerated.
　・ Caused clinically （QOL） significant beneficial repercussions in all patients studied.
　・ Probably the AHCC time use must be longer, according to each case.
　・The dosage can, sometimes, be higher.
　・ Most cases receive one spread clinical indications like；compromised immune status, liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease, nutritional depletion.
　・ Surely the knowledge about the AHCC is far from being totally understood, requiring more studies.
　・ Probiotics and prebiotics need to be better understood, in order to occupy a large space in medical treatments.
　・ Nutrition, integrative medicine （demands a better place, despite many Western physicians tending to dismiss it, because there aren’t enough emphasis on Evidence-Based Medicine （EBM）, which has been actively growing in Europe, Germany, Australia, and United States）.
　・ Will occupy a greater presence in the medical field. Integrative medicine use of therapeutics methods thought to be the most beneficial to every patient.
　・ Integrative medicine looks to be the most appropriate treatment to each patient with their personal conditions. Offer western medicine, but don’t exclude the possibility of using alternative medicine.
